George Benson cancels UK tour due to ill health

Soul icon George Benson has cancelled his upcoming UK tour - and will no longer perform internationally - because of poor health.

The 80-year-old, who's based in his native United States, was due to play a series of dates in June and July - including two nights at the Royal Albert Hall in London - but is no longer able to do so.

In a statement, George's team said: "Unfortunately, on doctors' advice and due to ill health, George Benson’s UK tour has had to be cancelled. 

"It’s the end of a lifetime of bringing the unique music of George Benson internationally. With a heavy heart, George has taken the advice of his doctors to stop touring.

"The strain of long distance travel has now been deemed too much for George. We are desperately sorry to disappoint all of his fans, but he has to take the advice given."
